Glass wearables

During a Summer Session at Pilchuck Glass School following graduation, I took space to begin processing what it means to be out of school, to have the terminal degree in my field, and what it feels like to no longer self identity as a student, but to suddenly be a "professional maker".

I left graduate school knowing that my practice at large explores the human condition in relation to the natural world. I left knowing I am intrigued by the ways in which natural systems collide and intersect, no matter their scale or distance from the self. And I left knowing I have an infinite amount of learning to do to understand why and how all things effect one another. The moment that I define as the start to this processing is this day.

06/19/22

I stand nude, barefoot on the burned and logged land of northern Washington. The ground is damp on my feet. Air is cool too, but I am not cold. I stand, looking directly into the camera, wearing a set of clear glass milk glands and a uterus, affixed to my body via copper wire. I feel a combination of empowerment and hopelessness.
